On January 18, the art exhibition “A Feast for the Eyes from Europe” kicked off in Hunan Museum. Co-hosted by Hunan Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) and supported by Art Exhibitions China, the exhibition will be open till April 17.

The exhibition displays 90 exquisite treasures from the Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Collection, including gold and silver objects, enamel miniatures and glass and stone mosaics. These reveal to local audiences a chapter of European history, as well as handicrafts of sophistication and high tastes. Works once presented to kings in Europe are also on display, such as a snuff box embedded with precious stones, which is recognized as one of the most expensive objects of its kind from the 18th century.

Apart from the dazzling artifacts, the exhibition is also unique in the design of the exhibition hall. There are a lot of European elements and a “European classics living room” in the exhibition hall, providing an immersive experience for visitors to enjoy the lifestyles of European royals and nobles. In the meantime, the multimedia equipment enables visitors to have a closer look at the artifacts; DIY and virtual games are interesting attractions too.

“A Feast for the Eyes from Europe” is indeed an ode to Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert’s impressive legacy and a feast of European history, culture and art for the public.
