Hunan Museum Introduces Digital Collectibles

湖南日报 | 12 30, 2021

The digital collectibles of two treasures of Hunan Museum, T-shaped silk painting from Xin Zhui’s tomb and lacquer coffin, were released through the Alipay app Topnod, a blockchain platform formerly known as AntChain developed by Alibaba’s fintech affiliate Ant Group, and sold out quickly. In the form of digital collectibles, cultural relics can be displayed and redesigned digitally, and can be commemorated and kept intact forever without physical constraints.

As the most representative discoveries from the Mawangdui Han Dynasty Tombs, these two relics present the funerary culture and artistic attainments and bear witness to the cultural and artistic development of Hunan more than 2000 years ago.

A total of three issues of digital collectibles have been released, including a 3D Celestial Deer, which is also inspired by the treasures of Hunan Museum and is the most spiritually representative totem of the Hunan culture.

Topnod digital collectibles are a new type of digital cultural commodity. Supported by Antchain’s blockchain technology, it provides a unique digital credential that corresponds to specific works or artworks, and enables digital issuance, purchase, collection and use while protecting digital copyright. Topnod app is dedicated to the promotion of traditional and modern culture and art, allowing users to purchase, appreciate and share digital collectibles. Digital collectibles include but not limited to digital pictures, music, videos, 3D models, e-tickets, and digital souvenirs.

In the Internet era, museums accelerated their digital exploration as digital technology has become an important means of heritage conservation in the pandemic era. As a new form of cultural creation, digital collectibles are adopted by many provincial museums. Since AntChain launched the “Treasure Project” in October, 17 museums have joined and issued digital collectibles. And more museums will showcase their digital collectibles during the Alipay “lucky card collection” campaign.
