ASEAN-China Dialogue on Sustainable Development of Culture and Tourism

长沙晚报 | 12 28, 2021

Changsha hosted the 2021 ASEAN-China Dialogue on Sustainable Development of Culture and Tourism in December 2021. At the panel discussion, Chinese and ASEAN experts shared their opinions on the sustainable development of culture and tourism in the post-pandemic era, industrial integration boosting the high-quality development of culture and tourism and rural revitalization.

“We are witnessing once-in-a-century pandemic and unprecedented global changes unfolding in our world. The tourism industry is undergoing profound changes, which requires reshaping of the traditional tourism development.” Shao Qiwei, Vice Chairman of the International Mountain Tourism Alliance (IMTA), points out that the tourism industry should pursue a high-quality development path featuring sustainable development, and a people-oriented, tourist-centered and demand-driven system. Shao also believes that China, the largest source of tourists for many ASEAN countries and one of the most popular outbound destinations for ASEAN tourists, should focus on the integration of major tourism elements, maintain a sound industrial ecology, and pay full attention to modern technologies.

Zin Mar Htwe, DCM & Minister Counsellor, Embassy of Myanmar in China, says: “To revitalize our socioeconomic development, ASEAN Countries and China should make great efforts to enhance tourism cooperation and to have secured an early victory over COVID-19.” 2021 ASEAN-China Culture and Tourism Week will further promote the cooperation between ASEAN and Chinese cities and provide a good opportunity to enhance cultural tourism promotion activities in the future.

Changsha has made great achievements in promoting the sustainable development of the culture and tourism industry over the years. In the post-pandemic era, it blazes a new path in the high-quality development of culture and tourism. With an international vision, Changsha leverages its profound history and rich tourism resources to build it into a world-class cultural and tourism destination.

The success of the 2021 ASEAN-China Dialogue on Sustainable Development of Culture and Tourism is a major initiative to promote the China-ASEAN sub-national cooperation in the culture and tourism industries.
