The 2021 “C+C” Media Arts Residency Programme invited eight young artists to start a 45-day creative journey in Changsha, a City of Media Arts.

Sponsored by the Publicity Department and organized by Changsha Development Center of Media Arts, the Residency Programme aims to use media arts to transform Changsha’s traditional cultural resources into innovative and creative artworks.

The eight young artists consist of four Hunan artists and artists from the UK, Portugal, the Republic of Korea, and New Zealand. Among them are accomplished curators, composers, graffiti artists, and photographers.

During the residency period, the artists got to know more about Changsha by enjoying the local food, visiting cultural and historical heritage sites, and experiencing traditional crafts. Their footprints cover places that carry innovative and creative elements of Changsha, including the Orange Island, Taipingli Community, Advance Art Museum, Tianxin District Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center, Fire God Palace Restaurant, Wenmiaoping, Changsha Jiandu Museum, Hunan Museum, Malanshan Video Cultural and Creative Industrial Park, Yuelu Academy, Tongguan Kiln Ancient Town, and Chaozong Street, etc. The artists explored humanities and arts and the city’s development through salons and seminars.

To mark this interesting journey, the artists created eight pieces of media artworks capturing a colorful Changsha.
