Symposium on Building Changsha into an International Hub of Culture and Creativity

长沙市媒体艺术发展中心 | 10 28, 2021

On October, 26, Symposium on Building Changsha into an International Hub of Culture and Creativity was held at Changsha Conference Center. Five experts attended the symposium and shared their expertise from different fields including children’s literature, publication, film and television, design, and creative firework.

As one of the first National Famous Historical and Cultural Cities, Changsha is home to profound cultural heritages. The local experts, who either grow or live in Changsha, have drawn their inspiration from the city to create their works. Tang Sulan, a famous children’s author, won the 11th National Outstanding Children’s Literature Award in August. Her awarded work, Tales in the South Village, was based on her hometown Ningxiang, a county in Changsha. She also plans to make “South Village” a popular IP.

Wei Chunyu, Dean of the School of Architecture at Hunan University, is always interested in the protection of historical and cultural blocks. He suggested that Changsha build an urban renewal pilot area to explore new development models.

For the growth of cultural industries, the experts suggest that Changsha should continue to strengthen industrial parks and form special industrial clusters to attract more talents. The Malanshan Video Cultural and Creative Industry Park, also known as Malanshan V Zone, is the hallmark of Changsha’s cultural industry. With 2,214 registered companies, the park will attract more companies in emerging industries such as intelligent publishing, digital education and media convergence.

Chen Jiangbo, the CEO of Showven Technology, highlights the integration of culture and technology. Engaged in creative fireworks, he believes technology will empower culture and creativity, and in this process, talent is the key. A global base for creative firework design and development requires more multi-disciplinary professionals.

Culture is the soul of a city. As proposed by the experts, to build Changsha into an international hub of culture and creativity, culture needs to be fully demonstrated in all aspects, to showcase the distinctive features of Changsha.
