Build Changsha into an International Hub of Culture and Creativity

长沙市媒体艺术发展中心 | 10 15, 2021

Renowned as a national historical and cultural city, the UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts, and a Culture City of East Asia, Changsha embraces innovation and creativity to enhance its cultural and creative industries and leverages its unique strength to build an International Hub of Culture and Creativity.

Culture is the soul of Changsha, and everything here tells its history. Cangfang Tourist Area, situated in Liuyang, Changsha, is the birthplace of Mr. Hu Yaobang, the former General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC). With diversified agritourism activities, the 1963 deco of the village (the exact style when Hu returned home in 1963), and an eco-parking lot, the 5A-rated tourist area attracted 32,500 tourists during the 7-day National Day holiday. Meanwhile, “Snowy above the River” presented on the Orange Isle vividly depicts Eight Views of Hunan, attracting more than 10,000 viewers during the National Day holiday. Apart from that, a Yuelu Academy-themed documentary employs AR and VR technology to restore historical scenes; so far it has generated over 15 million views online.

Along with the success of the culture-tourism integration, Hunan Broadcasting System (HBS) released many popular variety shows focusing on scripted role-play games such as Who’s the Murderer and Great Escape, which has attracted the attention of many young people and boosted the development of immersive entertainment. Looking forward, HBS will continue to pursue innovation-driven development with even more stringent copyright protection.

Creativity and advanced technologies breathe new life into the city’s culture and media arts. In the future, Changsha plans to combine tourism with culture to boost its international influence and create more highlights for the International Hub of Culture and Creativity.
