Intangible Cultural Heritage in Changsha to Celebrate the National Holiday

长沙市媒体艺术发展中心 | 10 03, 2021

On October 1, a series of intangible cultural heritage events to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China kicked off at the Changsha Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall.

With the theme “Intangible Cultural Heritage for All”, the events include Shadow Play Week, Special Session on Intangible Cultural Heritage Education and Intangible Cultural Heritage Tribute to the Motherland.

The Shadow Play Week, lasting from September 30 to October 7, shows the beauty of traditional art. It is joined by four inheritors, Zhu Guoqiang, Song Weijun, Wan Tiejun and He Zhiming, who perform not only classic plays but also original plays dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of China.

The events also incorporate creativity into traditional intangible cultural heritage. From October 1 to October 3, the sugar painting craftsmen produce sugar paintings with National Day elements on site, and the inheritors of Changsha riddle improvise culture-imbedded riddles for the visitors.

With a one-stop experience of “sightseeing + learning”, these events bring intangible cultural heritage such as Hunan embroidery, paper cutting, seal carving, dough modeling and Hunan opera closer to people.

Cultural confidence represents a fundamental and profound force that sustains the development of a country and a nation.
