Under the theme “Creative Youth, Creative Ideas”, the first Traditional Craft Innovation and Creativity Competition for College Students in Changsha, Zhuzhou and Xiangtan kicked off on August 17. It aims to cultivate innovative youth talent and promote the development and revitalization of traditional crafts.
The competition includes two main categories: product innovation and industrial design. As a task-oriented competition, the organizing committee designates certain traditional crafts, and the participants can choose one or more traditional crafts to make their creative design. The designated traditional crafts include Changsha Tongguan Kiln porcelain-making, Liling underglazed multicolored porcelain, chrysanthemum stone carving, Hunan embroidery, Liuyang Xiabu (ramie)-weaving, palm leaf weaving, Liuyang steamed dishes, Changsha green tea, etc.
The organizing committee will arrange field visits to help the participants better understand the cultural background of local traditional crafts. Liuyang, the birthplace of Liuyang Xiabu, is their first destination. The participants will have on-site experience including material extracting, weaving, sewing incense bags to experience the charm and fun of traditional crafts.
Incorporating traditional crafts with creative designs, the competition provides a platform that translates youth creativity into practical products. It also takes the lead in promoting high-quality integration of culture and tourism in Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan city cluster.
