What attracts you most for the city of Changsha? Mouth-watering Xiang local food? You can ask for more. The city boasts quite a few galleries and exhibition halls, which enjoys an extensive popularity among young artists and hipsters.

 

Houhu Gallery


 

 

Houhu International Art Space is the largest painting base in Hunan province. It is a comprehensive zone with learning, developing and producing integrated altogether and has formed a complete chain of art industry.

“A Hundred Year History of Hunan” art show will open in this July, and “Yanghu Dream” exhibition is about to open in this September.

Changsha Museum


 

Changsha Museum, located in No.408, Bayi Road in Changsha, is a comprehensive museum rebuilt on the base of the old site of the CPC Hunan Committee. It collected more than 20,000 precious cultural relics that reflect the history of Changsha and the revolution in modern China. The recent exhibitions include “Calligraphy in Mei Mountain”, from September 3th to 11th, and “Carving the Times” - New media exhibition of Chinese Cultural Sages, from September 14th to 24th, etc.

Transportation: It takes about 10-minute to get here from Changsha Railway Station. Visitors can take bus No.1, No.112, No.142, No.105 or other 10 routes.

Changsha Bamboo Slips Museum


 

Changsha Bamboo Slips Museum is the only museum in the world that collects ancient relics of bamboo and wooden slips, which is one of the most important culture scenic spots in Changsha.

The museum will exhibit works of Zeng Xiaoxu, a Well-renowned Chinese ink painting artist, from May 26th to July 25th.

Meilu Museum


 

Meilu Museum is composed of special pavilions in the name of many famous artists in Hunan, such us Zhu Xunde and Zhang Xiliang Pavilion. It also collected works from local modern artists as well as North Korea artsists.

Forwarding Gallery


 

Located in Taiping Li, a downtown art street in Changsha, Forwarding Gallery, is  committed to finding and showing excellent artistic works, searching and cultivating potential young artists.

It is a public and non-profit gallery, but aims to push forward the building of local art eco-system and enhancing the communication between the local art and different art at home and abroad.

There are a series of Forwarding Art Public Speeches from June, 2016 to February, 2017. From this July to August, a batch of exhibitions will be expected to celebrate the opening of a new pavilion in this gallery.

Academy Gallery from Hunan Normal University Academy of Fine Arts


 

Hunan Normal University Academy of Fine Arts is located at the foot of Yuelu Mountain. It is a platform for art studying and teaching, which set creation, display, communication and postgraduate teaching in one.

There will be Hunan Normal University Professor Liu Xiadong’s Visiting Russia Achievements Exhibition in mid and late September. Hunan Normal University Academy of Fine Arts Teachers’ Work Biennale will be exhibited in mid and late October.

Paper Art Museum


 

Paper Art Museum, affiliated to Hunan Happy Culture Company Limited, is a museum with paper works as its theme, which fills the blanks in Chinese art galleries. Paper Art Collections will be exhibited on June 25th.

Tan Guobin Contemporary Art Museum

 

 

Tan Guobin Contemporary Art Museum was found by Tan Guobin in 2005, and it has become a base of public education.

From late July to late August, Italian Painting Exhibition will be exhibited. Qi Baishi and Huang Binhong Painting Exhibition will open from late August to late November. From late November to late December, there will be Xu Zhaohai Painting Exhibition .

CS 798 Creation and Culture Community


 

Changsha Twilight 798 City Experience Pavilion is found by reconstructing the old factory buildings of the old Twilight Power Station. It is planned to combine business, literature and creation together and is to be made into a cultural industry park with a new concept. The original mode and style of the old factory are remained and many modern and avant-grade designs are added.

The non-distance VR Art Exhibition is open in Virtual Reality Pavilion till August 30th, and on August 1st, there will be general Le Daobin’s Painting Exhibition.

Hunan Moon Center for Contemporary Art


 

Hunan Moon Center for Contemporary Art is not only an art museum but also an interesting salon with various painting, sculpture, engraving and other art exhibitions and cultural exchange activities.

Huangjia Exhibition and Chen Yuanlong Exhibition will be exhibited from July to August. From September to October, there will be a Zhao Kuo Personal Art Exhibition.

Yang Fuyin Art Museum


 

In 2006, the nationally famous Hunan painter and essayist Yang Fuyin, who had lived in Guangzhou for many years, returned to her hometown Changsha and found the Yang Fuyin Art Museum that opens to the public for free. For 5 years, the museum has received over 2.67 billion visitors from home and abroad. In October, there will be “Endlessly Collecting- Yang Fuyin Painting Art Exhibition”.

Hunan Provincial Painting Academy


 

Hunan Provincial Painting Academy is an important window of foreign cultural and artistic exchanges. The complete facilities offer excellent environment for art creating, studying, communicating and exhibiting.

In July, there will be Hunan Female Artists’ Work Exhibition. Chen Fengxin’s Exhibition will be exhibited in September.
